LEGENDARY BROADCASTER WILL BE MISSED |
GOERGE PUTNAM 1914 - 200809*12*08
I will be briefly speaking with Chuck Wilder on what has been George's show for many years. I am scheduled to be on for a few moments at about 3:30 PM Eastern Time. You can listen online at: WWW.CRNTALK.COM George was also a television news anchor and appeared in a number of movies. (For example, he appeared for all too short an appearance in the science fiction thriller, "Independence Day" starring Will Smith. In this film he played himself as a broadcaster reporting on the arrival of the flying saucers.) I have done many radio shows but I have to tell you in all candor, that George's show was one of my all time favorites, if not my absolute favorite! George was a straight-shooter who was respectful, knowledgeable and was very clear about his views. He was probably the very first broadcast journalist to address the issue of illegal immigration. While I certainly cannot speak for him (or anyone else) George was clearly motivated by his love of our country and his fierce patriotism. I came to consider George and his "side kick" Chuck Wilder as being good friends and for the past several years, George sent me Christmas cards and made it clear that he was really interested in you as a person, not just as someone he could interview on the air. The American people have a special interest with those whom we invite into our homes and into our cars to accompany us as we drive to work or some other destination. George has therefore been a guest in more homes and traveled with more Americans in their cars than anyone else I could think of! The Founding Fathers of our nation decided that the First Amendment of the Constitution should deal with freedom of speech and freedom of the press. The wisdom of the founders of our country is evident in so many ways, this is simply another clear example of how gifted those first Americans were! George Putnam, in my humble opinion, offered a wonderful example of the importance of the free exchange of ideas and information. This is the bedrock of our democracy! We have been diminished by the passing of George Putnam, yet we are all enriched for his having been there for so many years, visiting with us in our homes and cars and everywhere else his broadcasts were listened to! Rest in peace, George- We will never forget you! Michael Cutler ADDITIONALLY, laradio dot com - Where is George Putnam Michael Cutler, THE Wake Up America |
